I love my job. Every day is like a football game. Slow days are scrimmages, busy days are the big game. We have a five dollar buffet we run (the usual price is $15) and those days are BONKERS. I listen to a lot of music. I have a 45 minute drive to work, so for an hour and a half a day it's me, my car and my phone hooked into the stereo. I bought this yesterday and have been enjoying it immensely.

I found my Chinese cleaver while looking through some moving boxes. It was a happy reunion, I just can't seem to shake the urge to dice 10 pounds of red bell peppers now.

Found a good local source for vanilla beans, it's a little co-op the next town over. It has a lot of nice things that aren't readily available upstate. They're also looking for volunteers so it would be a nice place to be on my days off.

I'm slowly getting over death plague 2011. The worst is over but it's going to be a while before it's gone completely. At work I've made mini cheesecakes and mini flourless chocolate cakes that came out beautifully, but I really hit gold with some molasses spice cookies. I have a cold. Which is strange, usually sneezing twice in one day is considered a rip roaring cold for me, but this is... wow... not pretty. I seem to have acquired some kind of Martian death plague. Anyone know what the world record for most consecutive sneezes is?

I work in one of the kitchens at a Harness racing track that recently added a small casino. When the racing season ends things slow down dramatically. I asked the Executive chef if I could work on some desserts on my own initiative on the slow days and he gave me the green light. Inside my head I may have tweaked out slightly. I replaced the air conditioning compressor in my car the other day. The clutch had gone in it, resulting in a horrible sound not unlike an old eggbeater push mower. I'm still kind of surprised by my ability with machinery.
